1해외여행경험이 많은 사람들의 여행 동기 연구 -포커스 그룹 인터뷰 방법을 이용하여-

In this research, travel motivations of heavy overseas travelers were studied with Focus Group Interview(FGI). Heavy overseas travelers who were recent 12 months overseas travel-experienced and travel overseas at least 2-3 times per year single and married men and women were selected for 3 focus group interviews. The following results were obtained : 1) heavy overseas traveler`s seven motivations were drawn as relax, experience · fun, self-development · self-actualization, relationship · communication, escape, nostelgia and addiction. Specifically, the proposed motivation in this study, ``addiction`` can be explained as similar meaning or developed one with motivation from precedent study ``Like traveling itself``, and it means travel is settled as a habit that heavy travelers can not take away in their lives because they are addicted to it. 2) The drawn motivation elements were not applied to TCL (Travel Career Ladder) theory but some results could be applied to TCP (Travel Career Pattern). Implications for tourism marketers and researchers were discussed. The study has limitation in terms of a study need to consider more variables for travel motivations.

In the field of tourism demand research, tourism expenditures has mostly been explained as a function of discretionary income. However, economic theories have suggested that consumption could be stimulated even without a change in actual earnings. The most well-known phenomenon related to this is the wealth effect on consumption. From the wealth effect concept, people may spend more on goods when they actually become richer, or when they perceive themselves to be richer. Based on this concept, this study tested the wealth effect on expenditure of Korean travelers during 20 years period between 1989 and 2009 with quarterly time-series data. Real estate and financial assets(stock) were employed as two variables of wealth because the majority of Korean citizens invested their wealth in them during the period. Results showed the statistically significant effect of financial assets(stock) on the expenditures. However, results did not empirically support the effect of real estate on the expenditure. Implications and suggestions for future research were also provided.

Using the survey data of 36,989 responses obtained from the 2009 Social Statistics Survey, this study analyzed the relationship between domestic tourism and outbound tourism in Korea. In order to analyze the relationship, this study employed the bivariate probit and bivariate count regression as a naive model. Results showed that bivariate and count data probit models were better than the single probit model in terms of the model fit. Previous literature, which used a survey conducted in 15 European countries(EU-15) reported that the relationship between the demands was more likely a substitution pattern. However, results of this study showed the relationship between domestic tourism and outbound tourism in Korea was found to be complements. Implications and future research directions were also discussed.

The purpose of this study is to recognize how emotional value, functional value, functional quality, and social value which are sub-dimensions of travelers’ recognized values to overseas travel products influence on trust and purchase intention and to provide useful information to the marketing of overseas travel agency by validating the causality which trust influences on purchase intention. From January 10 to January 30, 2018, the data was collected for 10 days. Total 400 copies of questionnaires were distributed, 341 copies of them were collected, and 333 copies excluding 8 which were faithlessly responded were used to analyze as effective samples. Results of analysis can be summarized as follow: First, it was analyzed that emotional value, social value, and price value influenced a significant effect on reliability. However, it was indicated that quality value did not influence a significant positive (+) effect on reliability; Second, it was analyzed that price value and quality value influenced a significant positive (+) effect on purchase intention. While it was indicated that emotional value and social value did not influence a significant positive (+) effect on purchase intention.

The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of overseas travel experience on traveller’s pleasure and further traveller’s pleasure to post-purchase behavior, and the survey was questioned to the tourist who visited Western Europe. The survey was carried out to 220 travellers who have experienced high quality Western Europe tour, and 212 valid samples among them were used for analysis. The result of the factor analysis showed four factors regarding overseas travel experience, which were entertainment experience, esthetic experience, education experience and escape experience. And one factor for pleasure and two factors of satisfaction and loyalty for post-purchase behavior. According to hypothesis test result, the esthetic experience had the strongest influence on traveller’s pleasure. The escape and entertainment experiences were the next most influence on pleasure. But education experience did not influence on pleasure. The study showed that the pleasure of experience had positive impact on satisfaction and loyalty. In conclusion, the various experience of travel abroad increased traveller’s pleasure and proved as a factor to increase the satisfaction and loyalty.

The purpose of this study is to identify co-relationships among the variables which affects Korean tourists` external information search process in purchasing overseas Pleasure tour packages. Based on the model of external information search process which was developed by Perdue(1993), external information search process is assumed to have a function of optimizing `the perceived importance of information and `the perceived difficulty of information acquisition` in purchasing outbound tour packages. 240 self-administered questionnaires are filled out on the airport by the pleasure travelers who purchased overseas pleasure tour packages. Pearson co-relation analysis shows that `the amount of external information search` is significantly positively related with `the perceived importance of information` and negatively related with `the perceived difficulty of information acquisition`. In addition, both prior travel experiences and enduring involvement in overseas travel do significantly affect `the perceived importance of information and `the perceived difficulty of information acquisition` respectively.

This study examined the types of dissatisfaction that Korean outbound tourists experience. Content analysis method was used to analysis 629 complaints that were informed from 2003 to 2007 by the Korean outbound tourists to the KTO``s Tourist Complaint Center. Results showed that Korean outbound tourists were most likely dissatisfied with pre-tour briefing and contract process over the five years. In addition, about 78% of the complaints were reported by the tourists who bought their travel products from small or middle sized travel agencies. Furthermore, the tourists who visited Southeast Asia were more likely to inform the unsatisfactory statements to the center than those of other continents. Findings of this study suggest that the government should reconsider the criteria for registration of a travel agency. Additionally, travel agencies should pay more attention to clearly explain the travel conditions to their customers before making a contract.

본 연구는 여행경력이 축적됨에 따라 관광동기가 Maslow의 욕구 5단계 이론에 의한 하위 동기로부터 상위 개념의 동기로 발전해 나간다고 주장한 Pearce의 Tourism Career Ladder 이론에 대해 비판적으로 고찰하고 실증적으로 검증하여 수정이론인 Tourism Career Profile을 제시하였다. 한국의 여성관광객들과 우리나라를 방문한 일본 여성 관광객들을 대상으로 이들을 여행경력 프로필에 따라 군집화 하여 해외여행에서 추구하는 편익구조를 비교하였다. 그 결과, 여행경력에 따른 동기가 여행경력에 상관없이 모든 군집 응답자에게 핵심적인 편익요인이 작용하고 그 외의 부수적인 편익요인들이 동시다발적으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 자기개발, 모험, 휴식 등은 핵심적인 편익이고, 그 밖의 다양한 활동, 문화, 관계 등은 부차적인 편익요인으로 나타났다. 이는 TCL 오리지널 이론이 보다 이론적으로 타당성이 높은 TCP 모델로 수정되어야 함을 의미한다. 이론의 타당성검증과 더불어 실무적인 시사점을 얻기 위하여 한·일 간 여성 해외여행자들의 경력차이와 동기 및 여행특성의 차이를 분석한 결과 두 나라 여성들 간에 유의할 만한 차이가 있음을 발견하였다. 우리나라 여성관광객들에 비하여 일본여성들의 여행경력이 더 많았고 추구하는 편익 또한 다양한 활동과 문화적인 요인들로 우리나라 여성들이 주로 추구하는 휴식의 편익과는 차이가 있었다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 각 시장별 마케팅적 시사점을 제시하였다.


The aim of the current study was to reevaluate the theory of Travel Career Ladder suggested by Pearce(1988) and its modified model of TCP suggested by Ryan(1998) using empirical data collected among Korean and Japanese women overseas leisure travelers. Based on the travel career profile, the respondents were grouped by way of cluster analysis. There were three subgroups of TCP; the novice, the medium-experiencers, and the veterans. The social-psychological benefits sought from overseas leisure trip by the respondents were not hierarchical as Pearce`s TCL model suggests. Rather, some core benefits, such as self-actualization, excitement-seeking, and escape were sought by the respondents regardless of their travel career and several tertiary benefits acted simultaneously. This result suggest that the validity of TCL is weaker than modified TCP. For more practical marketing implications, Korean and Japanese respondents were compared in terms of their TCP, benefit-sought structure and travel behaviors. There were significant contrasts between two nationality groups. Some marketing implications were presented for the destination marketing organizations and the probationers.

10해외배낭여행객의 관광경험에 관한 연구 -근거이론에 의함-

이 연구의 목적은 경험이 많은 배낭여행객의 관광경험을 근거이론을 이용하여 분석함에 있다. 먼저 심층면접을 통하여 여행방법, 여행일화와 심리적, 정신적 혜택 등이 포함된 인터뷰내용을 필사하였다. 지속적인 비교를 통하여 138개의 개념을 추출하고 58개의 하위범주를 이끌어낸 후에 이를 근거로 15개의 상위범주를 추출하였다. 15개의 상위범주를 중심현상, 인과조건, 맥락조건, 매개조건, 작용·상호작용전략, 그리고 결과로 분류하여 상호간의 연결 관계를 도출하였다. 그 결과 배낭여행객 관광경험의 중심현상은 현지인과의 상호작용, 원시 자연 감상, 자유와 낭만 추구로 나타났으며 관광동기(인과조건)가 중심현상에 영향을 미치는 맥락에는 세렌디피티(serendipity), 현지인의 환대와 같은 긍정적요인과 현지문화의정체성 감소라는 부정적 요인이 있었다. 유산의 매력성과 지식의 축적은 중심현상과 작용·상호작용전략을 매개하는 역할을 하였다. 작용·상호작용전략에는 펠렘시스트(palimpsest) 인식, 자연주의태도의 형성, 자기성취감이 포함되었으며 이 단계는 결과현상인 자기성찰, 진정성 경험과 자연에의 경외심 인식에 공헌한 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같이 근거이론의 패러다임 모델은 개념과 하위범주로부터 도출된 상위범주사이의 관계를 규정함으로써 배낭여행객 관광경험의 심리적, 정신적, 철학적 사고과정의 표상을 분석하는 데에 유효한 도구를 제공하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 배낭여행객 관광경험에 대한 철학적 논의로의 확장에 기여할 것으로 사료된다.


As many Korean tourists tend to be more formally educated and accustomed to travel, they seek out more individualized experiences that combine leisure and learning opportunities with the possibility of self introspection. This paper aims to conceptualize the Korean backpackers` experiences by employing the grounded theory. In-depth interview data and travel diaries were analyzed and interpreted through the grounded theory mainly from the spiritual and philosophical perspective. Unlike deductive and/or statistical sampling processes, theoretical sampling was used to discover categories and their properties about Korean backpackers` experiences. This study followed three steps of coding process. In the open process, concepts were found through conceptualization of blocks which are broken down from raw data. In the axial coding process, the relationship between categories and subcategories through a paradigm model, Findings showed that the 57 low level categories were converged into the 15 high level categories, According to the paradigm model, the interaction with indigenous people, the appreciation of primeval natural landscapes, and the experience of freedom and romanticism were found as the major activities, The pursuit of authenticity, the self contemplation and the respect for mother nature were found as consequences of the target backpackers` experiences.
